In Bonn, sacred music was inventoried in two separate documents: In May 1784, after the death of Elector Maximilian Friedrich, an inventory of the entire palace included an itemized list of the court's music collection (here called "Inventarium 340"), each liturgical genre assigned its own category with its own numbering system. These correspond with black numbers still seen on the manuscripts. New acquisitions between 1784 and 1794 were certainly kept in a new catalogue (here "[Catalogue 1785*]"), now lost, but its organization can be easily reconstructed since the black numbers continued being assigned and entered on the manuscripts. These new acquisitions included a small group of items that Maximilian Franz had collected before 1784 (see "Cat. Gen. 53") and gave to the Kapellmeister upon taking office. In this view, you can see where each item in the library was originally listed in each of the relevant inventories, giving a sense of the collection's growth over time.
